WTA Finals

The WTA Finals is a WTA tournament that is played at the end of the tennis calendar year. The tournament has been taking place since 1972, and from 2019 to 2028 it will be played in the Shenzen Bay Sports Centre in Shenzen, China.

Martina Navratilova won the WTA Finals a record eight times, and it is hard to see any currently active tennis players coming close to that record. However, that doesn't mean that the 2021 edition of the WTA Finals won't be dominated by super-talented tennis players. Let's look at the main favourites for the 2021 WTA Finals title.

WTA Finals 2021 Outlook

If you go solely by WTA rankings, then there can only be one favourite for the 2021 WTA Finals - Ashleigh Barty. The diminutive Australian dynamo is currently ranked as World No. 1 and won the last edition of the WTA Finals in 2019.

Barty is excellent at all tennis surfaces, and hard courts are right up her alley. She brushed aside Elina Svitolina in the 2019 WTA Tour final by winning 6-4, 6-3, and will look for more of the same in 2021.

However, that doesn't mean that she won't come against some stern opposition. Her last year's final opponent, Elina Svitolina, won the WTA Finals in 2018 and will definitely do her best to win the last tournament of the year once again.

Some of those candidates that will be strong contenders to win the 2021 WTA Finals include 2018 finalist Sloane Stephens and the always dangerous Simona Halep. Other top-ranked players such as Naomi Osaka, Sofia Kenin, Petra Kvitova, Karolina Pliskova, and Aryna Sabalenka will also be in the mix.
