Next Generation ATP Finals

The Next Generation ATP Finals is a tournament that features the best Under-21 male tennis players in the world. The first edition of the event took place in 2017, and there have been two more in 2018 and 2019. The tournament is played at the PalaLido venue in Milan, Italy.

Tennis fans might be surprised to find out that the Next Generation ATP Finals are played with some rule changes compared to regular ATP events. For instance, the winner of the set is the player who wins four games first, and tiebreak starts at 3-games-all. Another interesting modification is the fact that players can use wearable technology and coaches can talk to them via headsets.

2021 Next Generation ATP Finals Favourites

The Italian tennis prodigy Jannik Sinner won the last edition of the Next Gen ATP Finals. The Italian triumphed over Australian Alex de Minaur in straight sets 4-2, 4-1, and 4-2, and showed off his class in 2019.

That was the second Next Gen Final appearance for the Australian, but the experience didn't matter in that case as Sinner was a force to be reckoned with in that match.

Should Sinner appear in the Next Generation ATP Finals 2021, he will definitely be one of the favourites to win it. The Italian turned pro in 2018 and is now ranked 36th, while still being only 19.

Other players vying for that Next Gen top spot include Miomir Kecmanovic and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Kecmanovic is a Serbian tennis talent ranked as Number 42 in the world. He took part in the 2019 Next Generation ATP Finals and got to the semifinals, where he lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

Davidovich Fokina is also a potential candidate. He is ranked 54th in the world and is one of the most promising Spanish players right now.
