About Jozef Kovalik

Born on 4 November 1992, Jozef Kovalik is a tennis ace from Slovakia. He is fondly known as Jo Jo among his friends and family.

Jozef took up the game of tennis from the age of 6. Growing up, he admired the former tennis player Michael Chang. He was an inspiration to the young Jo Jo and a mentor in a way since he observed his way of playing the game keenly.

During the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, Jozef and Filip Horansky grabbed a bronze medal playing doubles. As Kovalik progressed in his career, he added many other titles to his name. These include 9 ITF Futures titles and 4 ATP Challenger titles.

Jozef gave his best performance during the Sofia Open in 2018. However, he was able to reach the semi-finals only. Again, Jo Jo could only reach the semi-finals in the 2018 German Open in a similar fashion.

The same year, he was placed among the top 100 players with a world rank of 80. This was his career-high achievement as it dropped to 128 later in 2021.

Jozef is known to play well on both hard and clay surfaces. However, clay is his preferred surface. Furthermore, he enjoys watching ice hockey and football matches in his leisure time. He is a massive fan of SK Slovan Bratislava, a Slovakian-based football club.

In February 2019, Jozef shared a picture of him and his newly-wedded wife, Nikita, on Instagram. They have a son named Nikola, who was born the same year in August.
