About Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is an international tennis player representing France worldwide. Jo’s father is Congolese, while his mother is French. His father, an avid baseball player, was one reason why his interest in sports began. Apart from this, Tsonga has a childhood friend, Gael Monfils, who played tennis with him. Overall, these people influenced both his career path immensely. 

In 2003, Jo grabbed world No.2 in ITF junior singles, which was his career-high rank that time. He also won US Open boys’ singles titles the same year. Next year, he was able to win China Open by qualifying for 3 singles matches.

In 2007, he entered into senior game levels, during which his rank was 212 in the world. He kept acing several tennis tournaments in the same year, taking his rank among the top 50. This was an amazing feat for Jo, considering him to have reached there for the first time.

Next in Thailand Open, Jo, who entered as a second-seeded player, clenched his first career ATP title by defeating Novak Djokovic. Later on, he kept participating in ATP tours, of which he won 10 titles in France. 

He also has ATP Masters 1000 titles to his name grabbed during Paris tour in 2008 and Toronto games in 2104. These he won by defeating top seasoned players like Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Djokovic.

Considering his personal life, Jo-Wilfried married his long-time girlfriend, Noura El Shwekh, in 2018. However, they had their first child in March 2017.
