About Daniel Elahi Galan
Born on June 18, 1996, Daniel Elahi Galan Riveros is a successful Colombian tennis player. His birthplace is Bucaramanga, a medium-sized city in north-central Columbia. In-game, Daniel is a right-handed player and uses a two-handed backhand. Notably, his coach is his father, Santos Galan, who also taught him the very basics of the sport.
From 2015 to 2020, Daniel improved year-end ranking in 6 straight seasons, finishing 2020 at a career-high No. 115. In 2019, Riveros defeated the 2-time defending champion, Johnson, en route to the 1st ATP Tour quarterfinal and semifinal in Houston. He qualified at the 2020 Australian Open and reached the 2020 Roland Garro's third round, losing to No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
Daniel's mother is named Doris, and he has two brothers Sat and Xando, and sister Rocio. It seems like the family has gotten their tennis lessons from the father, as all siblings have played tennis professionally in their lifetime. Daniel turned pro later in 2015, with his in-game favourite shot being serve. When playing, his preferred surface is clay, and the tournament he enjoys most is Wimbledon. While growing up, he idolized Roger Federer and Victor Estrella Burgos, who often played in Colombia and whom Galan has known since childhood.
As a youngster nearing his early twenties, Daniel won ATP Tour's main draw debut on home soil at 2015 Bogota. He owns a 6-3 Davis Cup record, clinching Colombia's 3-1 win over Argentina in 2020 qualifiers by defeating Mayer and Londero. On April 5, 2021, he attained World No. 110 due to his first and best ATP Masters 1,000 third-round performance to date at the 2021 Miami Open.
