About Roberto Marcora

Italian tennis player, Roberto Marcora, had chosen his path primarily because of his father and grandfather. The duo enjoyed the game as leisure which he picked up at the mere age of 5. He kept playing the game and acing at it since then.

However, it was at the age of 20 when he turned professional. Compared to other tennis aces, who take up this sport as a profession at the age of 14 to 17, Roberto was slightly behind in the race. But this was not at all his weakness in any way.

Unlike other tennis professionals, who focused on the game since childhood, Roberto was slightly different. Although he loved tennis and also played it enthusiastically, he first thought of completing his schooling. Later, he also went through a year of his university before turning professional at tennis.

He entered the top 500 rankings after 4 years of turning professional. Further, in the 2017 Geneva Open, he qualified for his first ATP main draw. While he qualified for the tour by beating Marco Chiudinelli and Pere Riba, he was later defeated in the first round by Mikhail Kukushkin.

Later in the 2020 Maharashtra Open, Roberto grabbed his first ATP tour-level win. This made him the oldest player to earn the title after Jan Mertl (34 years old). But, again, he was defeated in the quarter-finals by James Duckworth, the Australian tennis ace. As of 2020, his career-high ATP rank is 150 in singles.
