Elina Svitolina was born on 12 September 1994, and she is a professional tennis player from Ukraine. In 2017, she achieved her career-high ranking of world No. 3 for the first time, and she’s been aspiring to come close again. 

Her highest career doubles ranking is No. 108, which she achieved in 2015. After winning the 2017 Dubai title, Svitolina became the first Ukrainian woman to reach the top-10 rankings. 

Tennis Influences

Being motivated by the most famous stars Serena and Venus Williams, Svitolina looked up to them and adjusted her playstyle accordingly. Holding a tennis racquet for the first time at 5 years old, it’s safe to assume she never looked back since then. 

Now, Elina is a defensive baseliner with an incredibly well-rounded game. Her mobility, footwork, speed, stamina and anticipation are her main assets, allowing her to return as many balls as possible and elicit unforced errors from aggressive opponents. 

Elina may not have had a close family member with a lot of tennis knowledge while young, but she was able to find herself idols to inspire from nonetheless.

Hobbies and Interests of Svitolina

Regarding her private life, Svitolina is married to Gael Monfils, an ATP tennis player. They started dating in 2019, and in April 2021, they announced their engagement. 

While Elina has notes that tennis is her biggest passion, she’s also passionate about reading and learning new subjects, specifically business and economics. Her favourite food and guilty pleasure is Chinese cuisine.
